"Do not worry about your problems with mathematics, I assure you mine are far greater." -Albert Einstein In its vaguest form mathematics can be defined as "the study of quantity, structure, space, and change." In reality, matters are not quite that simple. More so than most fields of science, Mathematics is a complex system of abstract, logical reasoning. This logical tool allows us to seek out patterns and establish new truths via a method of rigorous deduction and by utilizing previously established conjectures. While this area of study has now become essential in countless fields (from cosmology to social science) it originated through early man's study of the shapes that formed the world around him and a need to numerically organize, and keep track of, objects. |
