Hayabusa Spacecraft Explodes In Earth's Atmosphere

Hayabusa Spacecraft Explodes In Earth's Atmosphere
In this film you will witness the catastrophic destruction of the Hayabusa Spacecraft as it passes through the Earth's atmosphere. Watch as this asteroid sample return mission breaks into countless pieces like a stream of fireworks.

While this video was originally submitted as a meteor exploding in the atmosphere, our community informed us that this was in fact a spaceprobe.

On June 3, 2010 the Hayabusa completed its journey of 1.25 billion mile journey to the comet Itokawa with a fiery plunge into the Earth's atmosphere high above the Australian outback. The video shows the breakup of the Hayabusa spacecraft on the left side of the picture, with the sample return cannister (small, steady pinpoint of light) flying ahead of the main body.
