NASA Detects Asteroid Collision

NASA Detects Asteroid Collision
In late 2010 astronomers noticed that an asteroid named Scheila had brightened unexpectedly and was trailed by plumes of debris. NASA soon discovered it was most likely caused by an asteroid-on-asteroid collision.

This NASA video, released by Goddard Space Flight Center, shows how data from NASA's Swift satellite and Hubble Space Telescope was used to determine the cause of asteroid Scheila mysteriously brightening.
