The Tragedy of Suburbia

The Tragedy of Suburbia
In James Howard Kunstler's view, public spaces should be inspired centers of civic life and the physical manifestation of the common good. Instead, what we have in America is a nation of places not worth caring about.

He makes some very good points, even if he does so in a vitriolic and insulting manner.

We had, and have, this kind of vision in my own home town. We have a comprehensive growth plan, passed into law, that takes all these ideas into account.

Yet most of the politicians and business "leaders", who are the product of all the old ideas, have successfully managed to ignore these principles and even their own laws that are supposed to enforce them, in favor of "business and profit as usual".

They are scum.
