Human Faced Fish
A long time ago a boat capsized in Korea, drowning the occupants. In the same river was a fish with a face vaguely resembling a human. Believing the fish are their spirits, they are thrown back, so artificial selection has refined their human features.

I have a problem believing this story!

The fish you see in the picture are koi a member of the carp family (Cyprinus carpio). These fish do not occur naturally in the wild and have only been bread in captivity through processes of selection (many hundreds of years) for colour, size, shape, fin distribution and scale quality & pattern.

Granted the idea that removing all the "normal" looking fish out of a system (fishing), leaving only the human faced fish to breed and exadurate the abnormal feature is plausible.

It doesn't make any sense to me why the defect has occurred in the first place (Darwin's finches changed beak shape to feed on different available seeds, giraffes developed long necks to access the not so prickly parts of acacia trees and where no other animal could feed) but why would a fish develop this trait. Plus how could this trait be beneficial to the species "making the fish in question" the fish most likely to pass on its genes to the next generation (natural selection).

IMOP these faces have been CGI'd onto the fish and it is nothing more than a hoax. Check this music video out for another animal/human face combo.

The only other possibility is cosmetic surgery. The do some awful things to fish in order for the to sell i.e. dying, tattooing, cutting off tails to make dwarfs. I would not put it past some of these monsters to crush the cartilage around the head of the fish to endorse human like features.

You shouldn't have a problem believing it, I explained why it occurred in the description.

It was a simple coincidence that the fish in the river had very slight characteristics of homo sapiens, enough so that the human mind was able to distinguish a resemblance when looking for it.

There is still normal fish in that river, and the locals heavily utilize that river for food, which is why this happened. Having a human visage is useless except for in their relations with humans, but it is us guiding this artificial selection. The fishermen would keep fish without the human characteristics for food, but would toss back the ones with the "face". Given a few generations of this selection, it would come as no surprise that some of the species now has more resemblance than did originally.
