The talk of putting together a leaving breathing mammoth has been getting more intense after mammoth remains were found in Siberia. Researchers from Russia and South Korea have have put together a deal that would allow sharing of information and technology that could lead to the birth of a real mammoth through an Indian elephant surrogate mother.

A prominent name in the team is Hwang Woo-Suk from the Sooam Biotech Research Foundation in South Korea. Even though he has received some notoriety over faking research data on human stem cells, he is the creator of Snuppy, the world's first cloned dog.

The plan will carry on like previously successful efforts to clone cats, dogs, cow, pigs and other animals. The mammoth DNA cells from the remains in Siberia will be injected into the nuclei of the elephant eggs, implanting mammoth embryos. After that, they will gestate inside an elephant surrogate mother for 22 months. Following that, the team should have themselves a young member of this extinct species.
